Chelsea Carlisle is proof that a small-school girl can be a big-time player.

The Oaks Christian School senior was named as the girls' basketball player of the year by the Ventura County Basketball Coaches Association.

Carlisle averaged 23 points, 5.2 assists, 4.2 steals and made 60 3-point field goals for the Lions.

She scored 30 or more points three times, including a season-best 36 against Canyon.

Ann Larson, who led Ventura to a 27-3 record, a top 20 state ranking and her sixth Channel League championship in the last seven years, was named as the coach of the year.

Nordhoff's Gary Tuttle and Thousand Oaks' Neil Forman are the JV and frosh/soph coaches of the year.

Named to the all-county first team were: Dajyannah Vines, Oxnard; Rebeca Herrera, Fillmore; Lauren Carter, Moorpark; Erika Ward, Royal; Victoria Brubaker and Laura Easterling, Ventura; Shelby Babcock, St. Bonaventure; Amanda Padilla and Amelia Mathis, Buena; Jenna Bandy, Thousand Oaks; Doris Park-Sherman, Newbury Park; and Taylor Lord, Agoura.

Vines and Bandy are sophomores.
