Does mater dei have the oldest starting line-up in the nation?

Not trying to start anything here, just curious... I know all five are holdbacks/started school late and Gary Franklin is a double holdback, which means it would be tough for another high school in the nation to be older...Once again, this is a serious question, not trying to start anything...

How can anyone not be concerned about this? It's fine that they are all going to be 19 before school starts since that IS the rule. But the problem lies in the development of most male youths. Boys develop later than girls and one year makes a huge difference both in their mental state and physical state. So the argument can be made that this is an unfair advantage. It's one thing if a student is held back for a legitimate reason but it's another thing if it's being done for athletic reasons which is what is occurring more and more today.

In college an athlete can red-shirt for a year for numerous reasons and the male athlete by that point is more mature both in development and mental state, so here it makes more sense to holdback, but NOT at the high school level.

Interesting question you pose. I must say i am against it when parents hold back children strictly for athletics despite whatever they say. It does give their child an advantage. Say one of those players goes to school and redshirts by the time they graduate they would be two years older then their peers.
